My Matignon

My years at Matignon High School were amazing. I was tremendously blessed to be able to attend a school where I received an excellent education and established many strong relationships. I decided to attend Matignon High School because of its strong family environment and how welcoming, loving and caring the students and staff are at the school.  I immediately fell in love with the school when I shadowed at Matignon in 8th grade.  The experience I had during my shadow day was better than any other school.  The environment of the school was the best.  Everyone knows each other!  My decision heading into high school was that much easier because of Matignon High School.

At Matignon, I was involved with football, swimming and track.  Matignon football was a huge part of my life. We began weight training in January, Monday to Friday for about 2 hours each day until mid-August, which is when the season began. The weight training program had excellent exercises to get us into shape for the season. The coaches were great and extremely supportive towards the players. They taught us what it truly meant to “Expect Excellence” both on and off the field.  Being on the football team since freshmen year and having to face ups and downs with the other players, we developed a brotherhood like no other.  Playing for Matignon football was an excellent experience that I cherish and will never forget.  On top of the athletics, I participated in the Key Club, Spanish National Honor Society and the Spanish Exchange Program. Matignon High School has great extra-curricular activities where all the students are able to participate and become involved within the school community, doing something they love.

From living in Chelsea, a small city where at times it can be relatively dangerous, to being able to get out of that environment and into one where the opportunities are endless was truly a blessing. The opportunities I was exposed to at Matignon High School cover such an incredibly broad area for my own faith and moral development.  It was important to me to volunteer at my previous school, St. Rose Elementary School.  I helped out as many times a week as I could, especially in the spring.

During my last semester at Matignon High School, I was asked that if I had the opportunity to attend any other High School in the Boston area at no cost, what would I do? I thought about this question, and even though it would be a great opportunity, my response was and always will be to have stayed at Matignon. Matignon High School is more than just a place where I received an education - it became a second home where I spent time with family… sometimes too much time.

The education at Matignon High School was outstanding. I was well prepared over the 4 years for the upcoming challenges that I face in college and ultimately in life. My goal is to major in Political Science, aspiring to one day be able to continue my education and receive a Law Degree.  And as I head towards this long path in my life, I know I would not be where I am today if it was not for my family, my faith in God, and the tremendous influence Matignon High School has had in my life.
